Kercher Trial Begins in Italy
Trial of two former lovers Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, charged with murdering student Meredith Kercher from Britain, begins in Italy today.
Knox, 21, from Seattle and Italian Sollecito, 24, appeared in a courthouse in Italian town Perugia.
Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito are accused of murdering 21-year-old Leeds University student, Meredith Kercher from Coulsdon, Surrey, in a sex game.
Amanda was on her year abroad in Perugia when she was found dead, semi-naked with her throat slit, in a flat where she lived on November 2, 2007.
Both Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito deny any wrongdoing.
The judge has yet to decide today whether the trial should be held behind closed doors and whether to allow TV cameras into the court.
Rudy Hermann Guede, 21, from the Ivory Coast, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted of the murder in a fast-track trial in October 2008.
