Bush Shoe Video
President Bush avoids geting hit by shoes thrown at him by Iraqi journalist.
An Iraqi journalist threw two shoes at President George W. Bush at a press conference in Baghdad. The reporter insulted the American president and then let fly both shoes, one at a time.
The reporter idendified as Muntazer al-Zaidi, jumped up as Bush held a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, shouted “It is the farewell kiss, you dog” and started throwing his footwear.
When the first shoe was thrown the president lowered his head, and the shoe hit the American and Iraqi flags behind the two leaders. The second was slightly off target.
The reporter was immediately wrestled to the ground by security guards.
After Saddam Hussein’s statue was taken down in Baghdad in 2003, many iraqies were beating the statue’s face with soles of their soles. In Arab culture soles of shoes are considered the ultimate insult.
Bush joked about the incident, and said: “It doesn’t bother me. If you want the facts, it was a size 10 shoe that he threw”.
He also played down the incident saying “I don’t know what the guy’s cause is… I didn’t feel the least bit threatened by it.”
