President-elect Obama was pressed about his smoking habit on NBC’s “Meet the Press” this Sunday, where he sneaking a few puffs.
“There are times where I’ve fallen off the wagon.” Obama said.
Host Tom Brokaw asked “Have you stopped smoking?”.
Obama tried to avoid the question until Brokaw asked: “Then that means you haven’t stopped.”
Obama said: “What I would say is, I have done a terrific job under the circumstances of making myself much healthier, and I think that you will not see any violations of these rules in the White House.” Having said the White House doesn’t mean that he might not sneak a few puffs out in the Rose Garden.
Apparently Obama has been an on and off smoker for 20 years, averaging seven or eight cigerettes a day.
President-to-be Obama admitted that during the campaign he smoked a cigarette or two. In February this year, Obama said that he chews Nicorette gum.
Obama’s comments Sundays TV programme didn’t really clear the air.

Approximately 20 percent of American adults smoke, that makes around 43 million people.
It is estimated that around 443,000 people die annually from smoking related diseases such as cancer, lung disease, and heart disease.
